Description

Wide Mar has a simple but practical viewing screen with a view of a shallow pool. Many ducks can often be seen on the water of the pools, including Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Common Teal, , Eurasian Wigeon. The muddy edges are often frequented by waders such as Common Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Common Greenshank. Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff use the shallows as a place to sleep. Eurasian Spoonbill and Avocet come regularly. Many meadow birds nest in the grasslands, including Northern Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Meadow Pipit and Eurasian Skylark and Western Yellow Wagtail. The bushes sometimes contain Eurasian Siskin and recently Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.

Nederlands: Ondiepe plas met slikkige oever omgeven door graslanden in een open kleiweide landschap. Wide Mar heeft een eenvoudig maar praktisch kijkscherm met zicht op ondiepe plas. Op het water van de plassen zijn vaak veel eenden te zien, waaronder Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Common Teal, Garganey, Eurasian Wigeon. De slikkige randen worden vaak bezocht door steltlopers zoals Common Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Common Greenshank. Black-tailed Godwit en Ruff gebruiken de ondiepte als slaapplaats. Eurasian Spoonbill en Avocet komen er regelmatig. In de graslanden broeden veel weidevogels, waaronder Northern Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Meadow Pipit, Eurasian Skylark en Western Yellow Wagtail. In de struiken zitten soms Eurasian Siskin en recentelijk een Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.

Access

From Stiens via the Truerderdyk (later Wurgedyk) to the east. After about 3 kilometers there is a dead end road on the left. At the end of that is the viewing screen.

Nederlands: Vanuit Stiens via de Truerderdyk (later Wurgedyk) naar het oosten. Na ca 3 kilometer ligt links een doodlopend weggetje. Aan het eind daarvan staat het scherm.
