From the dike in good light a beautiful overview of the shallows in lake IJsselmeer with many thousands of resting and foraging waders, ducks and geese.
The Gaasterwad has shallow sandbanks, muddy transitions to shallow water in an open lake IJsselmeer. By looking from the higher dike in a westerly direction without backlighting, many species and large numbers of birds can be seen. Sleeping place of 10,000s Barnacle Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose and Greylag Goose. Resting and foraging during the day are Eurasian Curlew, European Golden Plover and many species of ducks and swans.
