RSPB reserve of 520 hectares and Essex WT reserves of 14 hectares and 28 hectares. Woods, grazing marsh, saltmarsh and mudflats on River Stour estuary.
Wrabness has many varied habitats. The woods have nesting European Turtle Dove and Common Nightingale, also many spring flowers especially bluebells. The wildflower meadows have Corn Bunting and European Stonechat. In autumn and winter the marshy areas attract Avocet, Red Knot, Ruddy Turnstone, Eurasian Spoonbill, egrets, and on the estuary, scoters, divers, Red-breasted Merganser, Eurasian Wigeon and Common Goldeneye.
From Colchester take A12 east for 15 miles then left on minor road and right at crossroads, the RSPB reserve car park is half mile ahead on the left. Nearest rail station at Wrabness, half mile from the reserve. EWT reserve also has car parking. 2.1 metre height barrier. Click on a P in the map to get directions to a parking. Buses between Manningtree and Harwich go past the RSPB reserve.
