Description
Despite the unofficial birding status, the "main pit", in particular, has attracted interesting species and there is an active support group for the site. Development of an adjacent field is likely to affect the site and, in particular, disrupt the last remaining Eurasian Tree Sparrow colony in the region. The nearby fishing lakes offer a different range of species.

Proposals for extensive housing development on an adjacent field are under discussion. If approved, it would have a severe impact on the sole remaining colony of Eurasian Tree Sparrow in Hertfordshire.
