This beautiful upland Beech woodland is managed by Gwent Wildlife Trust and has a rich mixture of habitats.
The areas of Beech make up the main components of the SSSI but the other areas include Oak, Alder, Willow and some Ash areas and also wet flushes and open glades that make the area suitable for a wide range of species. Once you reach the top of the site you are into open moorland with the associated species including Eurasian Skylark Meadow Pipit and occasional Merlin and Hen Harrier. Other regular raptors on site include Eurasian Kestrel Red Kite Peregrine Falcon and Common Buzzard . You can also look for Common Redstart, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Brambling, Common Cuckoo and Pied Flycatcher.
Parking: there is a car park at the entrance of the site at the top of Cendle Terrace, Cwm, Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent (sat nav should find it).
The site can only be accessed on foot and has no facility for disabled access. For more detailed information visit the Gwent wildlife trust website www.gwentwildlife.org.
Certain areas of the reserve are steep but if you walk at a leasurly pace it is not too hard.
