Short walk beside tidal salt marsh attracting many waders towards mud flats with pasture and woods overlooking the village.
Many different types of waders, ducks and raptors, both spring and winter migrants populate the estuary at Pen-Clawdd. Plenty to see all year around whatever the state of the tide. RSPB reserve across the river brings even more variety to the Pen-Clawdd side of the river, easily spend more than a day and still can miss something.
Free car park at Pen-Clawdd or limited parking on The Promenade, Pen-Clawdd is on the B4295 Gowerton Road. Click on the P in the map for directions.
Plenty of places to eat locally, in stormy weather the sea can wash over the promanade rails. Often rare birds are seen in the estuary, plenty to see all year around, but it can get busy during the summer.
