Woodlands mixture of firs and broad leafed trees with some open spaces.
Orlestone Forest is a 347.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Ashford in Kent. Apart from all the usual woodland birds this is reputed to be a Hawfinch breeding location. Among the other birds you can encounter are Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Common Chaffinch, Eurasian Bullfinch, Eurasian Siskin, Goldcrest, Common Nightingale (summer), European Goldfinch, Little Owl and Tawny Owl.
There is a car park and large woodlands with some open spaces. Walking on some stone tracks and footpaths. Not good for bikes unless dry conditions in the summer months. Wheel chair access also a bit muddy in places. O/k for falilies . Dog walkers go there at times. The circular route suggested on the map below is about 4,5 km long.
