Description

Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Ruddy Turnstone, Black Redstart, Rock Pipit and Goosander. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.

Sand Martin, House Martin and Common Swift can all be seen in summer. House Martin nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Sand Martin nest in the walls of the bay.

Eurasian Oystercatcher can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Common Redshank. Greenfinch is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Common Shelduck can be seen feeding.

Winter visitors include Little Gull. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Black-necked Grebe, Long-tailed Duck and Ring-necked Duck.
