Good location for a short trip (1-2 hours) gentle birding.
The nature reserve consists of a flood storage lagoon owned and operated by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency. The lagoon is good in winter for common wildfowl, has a small breeding colony of Cetti's Warbler, Common Kingfisher and Water Rail, and in summer holds most common visitors like Reed Warbler and Sedge Warbler. Rarities have included Garganey, Western Marsh Harrier and Great Bittern.
Parking is on roads in local village. Public footpath takes you alongside the nature reserve (although access is by arrangement with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust beforehand). The footpath and surrounding farmland provides a pleasant setting.
To visit the reserve and hide you must arrange with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust before your visit.
