Description
It is a breeding place for Grey Heron that can be observed from the path, and a habitat for waterfowl and for birds living in extensively used meadows. It is also a spawning ground for numerous amphibian species. Bird species that can be observed here include Grey Heron, Sedge Warbler, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Common Redstart , Eurasian Coot, Mallard, House Martin, Barn Swallow, Common Swift, Sparrowhawk, Eurasian Kestrel, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Siskin, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, European Robin, Common Chaffinch, Blackbird, Common Starling, Carrion Crow, Mandarin Duck, Goosander, Eurasian Collared Dove, Common Wood Pigeon, and White Stork.

Access
There is a public car park next to the lake. However, travelling by bus number 912 from Zürich Bellevue or bus number 919 from the Küsnacht train station (both to the bus station Itschnach-Tägermoos) is recommended. You can also reach Schübelweiher on different walkways leading there from Küsnacht train station in ca. 40 minutes.

From February, Grey Heron breed on an island. This allows fascinating observations of the feeding and the progress of the young birds from the walking path. Occasionally a White Stork may be looking for a bite in one of the meadows next to the lake.
