Description
The Heidsee is a picturesque area in a unique mountain setting. In contrast to many other mountain lakes, there is some reedbed here and corresponding water birds (breeding area for Tufted Duck, Little Grebe, Eurasian Coot and Common Pochard). Species of the alpine coniferous forests can be observed in the tree groups (Coal Tit, Crested Tit, Nutcracker, Eurasian Bullfinch). Highlights include the Lesser Whitethroat, Common Sandpiper, Lesser Redpoll, and Common Redstart. The lake does not appear to be frequently observed during the migration periods, so there could be a few surprises in addition to the 106 species that have been observed here so far.

Access
The Heidsee can be easily reached by public transport (Postbus from Chur in the direction of Lenzerheide to Valbella). Press P on the map for directions to a parking. The well-developed hiking trail around the lake (about 3,5 km) also leads to several small islands with barbecue areas. The area is heavily frequented by tourists. A visit is particularly worthwhile early in the morning in late spring, summer and early autumn.
