Description
Ekesholmsjön gives a nice walk through an old but small oak pasture, deciduous forest, pine trees and wet forest. The latter is good for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. The lake does not hold many birds. There goes a path around most of the lake, when you come to the wet forest (W of the lake) you got to find your way depending on how moist it is.
Raptors that can be seen in the area are White-tailed Eagle, Eurasian Hobby, Eurasian Goshawk, Osprey, Red Kite. Other birds are Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker and Common Crossbill. If you are visiting in summer keep an eye open for the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) at the oak pastures. It is also worth to know that the lake gets warm quick and is very shallow, perfect for a bath ( if the humus colour doesn't disturb you). If you follow the path towards the pond Pydden you will come in to older conifer forrest, with Common Crossbill and woodpeckers.
