Vast landscape of farm terraces and fields with goat farms in the mountains of northwest Tenerife. Great area to combine hiking and birding.
The hamlet of Teno Alto lies high up in the Teno mountains in the northwest of Tenerife. It is a remote but beautiful area with many hiking trails. It has fields with grazing goats alongside patches of tree heath vegetation and hillside crops. This is a place to look out for farmland birds that you won't find on many other places in Tenerife. In particular Rock Sparrow, Corn Bunting and Linnet. Sometimes even very rare birds like Common Quail and Cirl Bunting are seen or heard.
Teno Alto lies in the Teno mountains in the northwest of Tenerife. A winding road brings you to the village. Click on the P in the map for directions. There are many walking trails around the village. On the map you see a 3 km circular walk, but it is easy to make the walk longer.
