Señorío de Bértiz has been a natural park since 1984 and is the only place in Spain where you can find the 7 species of woodpeckers that inhabit the Iberian Peninsula. You can freely walk along various trails with varying degrees of difficulty, visit a beautiful botanical garden (entry fee required) or spend the day with the family in the picnic area and children's play area. It also has an information office, a souvenir and local products shop, and public services.
The route through the forest allows us to see many species of forest and river birds. For example Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, White-backed Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Wryneck, Eurasian Nuthatch, Short-toed Treecreeper, Firecrest, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, Crested Tit, Long-tailed Tit, White-throated Dipper, Grey Wagtail and Common Kingfisher.

Señorío de Bértiz is located in near the village of Oronoz-Mugairi. The N-121A road takes you to Oronoz-Mugairi and from there a bridge crosses the Bidasoa River to the free car park and the botanical garden. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
The paths through the forest are freely accessible and start from the barbecue area. They can be walked and one of the paths is allowed to be cycled. If you have a dog, it must be kept on a leash at all times. At the beginning, the path is wide and paved, but not asphalted. Further on, when crossing the valley to the left, the path is narrower, steeper and, if it has rained recently, slippery. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 6 km.

It is highly recommended to visit this natural park in autumn: the colours of the beech forests are spectacular.
