Castillo San Felipe in Natural Park Cabo de Gato is good for birding and finding birds like Trumpeter Finch and Black Wheatear.
In the east of the dry province of Almería lies the beautiful unspoilt Natural Park Cabo de Gato. It covers 29,000 hectares and was protected as a nature park in 1987. You will find erratic steep coasts, sand dunes, salt flats and huge cliffs of volcanic rock. In the area around San Felipe castle various plants grow on the rocky soil that attract interesting birds like Trumpeter Finch, Black Wheatear, Crested Lark and Meadow Pipit. You will find Black Wheatear usually on the castle, Trumpeter Finch wander all around the area.
Via A7, AL3108 and AL4200 direction Los Escullos. Then park at the restaurant / castle.
