One of the highlights of the spectaculair Donana National park. All iconic species of the region may be seen at this site.
The setting of this site is incredible; from the promenade of the Western-like village of El Rocio you overlook a lush lagoon (if the lagoon holds water, if not, this site is not interesting). You may see all interesting species of the park at this lagoon. On a regular day the lagoon is littered with Greater Flamingo and the vegetation in and around the lake hold Squacco Heron, Purple Swamphen and Little Bittern. Lastly Collared Pratincole is another attraction here. At dusk, red- and fallow deer graze on the opposite side of the water.
The lagoon is not to be missed, it is located on the south of the town of El Rocio.
In summer, this area does not always hold water (when I visited in the summer of 2018 it did however). Maker sure to check this beforehand though.
