Laguna's de Beleña nature reserve. Seasonal wetlands surrounded by agricultural landscape.
Seasonal lagoons located at the foot of the Sierra de Ayllón, 950 m. of altitude, in the Region of the High Campiña of Guadalajara. This is an area of spring passage and migratory concentration of Common Crane and water birds. The two paths that start from its parking lot, with a simple route, less than 5 kms. And with bird observatories throughout its route, are the ideal place for birding. Raptors, owls, migratory birds, wetland birds, beautiful scenery.
This lagoon complex constitutes a traditional annual stop zone for hundreds of Common Crane that, from mid-February to mid-March, find shelter and food in it. Other species that fall into these lagoons during migration are Purple Heron, White Stork, Black Stork, Eurasian Spoonbill, Red-crested Pochard, Little Ringed Plover, Whimbrel, Eurasian Curlew and different kinds of ducks.
There is a parking lot 50 m away from the diversion towards the "Laguna's de beleña" sign. The hiking itinerary to visit the lagoons is practically flat and has a total length of 3,600 m. (round trip). The total time of the visit to the two lagoons is about one hour, plus stops.
There are two hides located at the SW and NE of the natural reserve. Water level depends of seasonality. Worthy to look for raptors in the croplands and owls in the forest patch (pines mostly), as well as deers in the fields. Spectacular sunset in the SW hide.
