Description
La Higuerilla is a great spot to look for birds of prey. In 2024 I found 3 different Eurasian Black Vulture nests in the oaks on the other side of the river, although some diligent scanning is required to find them. Also easily seen in spring and summer are Black Kite, Short-toed Snake Eagle and Booted Eagle.
Be sure to check the riverbanks for fishing Black Stork. On- and around the river Grey Heron, Little Egret and Great Cormorant are present most of the time, as well as Purple Heron sometimes. Pay attention to the calls of Red-legged Partridge, which often can be found in the scrubland or even crossing the road.
