Description
The bird observatory of Quinta do Saldanha in Montijo is located in a riverside area, close to the Tagus estuary. It is a transition zone between fresh water from the Tagus River and salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. This results in a mixture of the two types of water, giving particularities to this habitat, which is one of the most peculiar on the planet. A place with a beautiful sunset and natural landscape to protect properly. Birds you can observe include Common Shelduck, Black-winged Stilt, Common Ringed Plover, Black-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Eurasian Spoonbill, Greater Flamingo, Canada Goose and Little Egret.

Português: O acesso não é claro e o abrigo para observação de aves construido em 2017 está quase destruido. Esta zona ribeirinha, próxima do estuário do Tejo, é uma zona de transição entre água doce proveniente do rio Tejo e água salgada, proveniente do mar (oceano atlântico ); o que resulta numa mistura dos dois tipos de água conferindo particularidades a este habitat que é um dos mais peculiares do planeta. To get to the observatory you can park next to the Jardim do Parque do Saldanha on Rua Cidade de Lisboa in Montijo, which is a 6-minute walk from the observatory. Press on the P in the map for directions to the parking spot. If you come by boat from Lisbon to Cais do Seixalinho you can catch a bus there which takes 12 minutes to the nearest stop, but only runs every 30 minutes. Caution is recommended when walking near the road as there are no sidewalks. The time to reserve for the visit may be one hour or more, depending on the time, tide (see a link to the tide table below) and weather.
Please don't visit this place during the dark hours of the day, especially at night due to the lack of surveillance and the presence of people vandalizing the hide.

Português: Para chegar ao local poderá estacionar é junto do Jardim do Parque do Saldanha, Montijo na Rua Cidade de Lisboa que fica a 6 minutos a pé do Observatório. Se vier de barco de Lisboa para o Cais do Seixalinho poderá apanhar um autocarro lá que leva 12 minutos até à paragem mais próxima, mas só passa de 30 em 30 minutos. Recomenda-se cautela ao andar junto da estrada pois não existem passeios. O tempo a reservar para a visita poderá ser 1 hora ou mais depnderá da hora, maré e do tempo.
Desanconselho visitas a este local a horas do dia sem luz, pricipalmente durante a noite pela falta de vigilância do local e má frequência por quem vandaliza o espaço.
