The Quinta de Marim estate could be described as a microcosm of the surrounding Ria Formosa Natural Park. 60 hectares of pinewoods, sand dunes and mudflats.
Quinta de Marim (or Centro Educação Ambiental de Marim) is a beautiful estate with many different habitats that attract birds. A 3 km trail takes you through various ecosystems – dunes, salt marshes, pine woodlands. There is a hide at the edge of the marsh. Among the interesting birds you can see in the area are Great Spotted Cuckoo, Little Owl, European Bee-eater, Red-rumped Swallow, Purple Swamphen, Black-winged Stilt, Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Kentish Plover, Little Egret, Iberian Magpie, Sardinian Warbler, along with other warblers, chats, finches, larks, tits and thrushes.
Quinta de Marim is located 10 km east of Faro. Opening hours: Monday to Friday 8am-8pm; weekends and public holidays 10am-8pm. Entrance € 3 (2024). Parking near the entrance. Click on the P in the map for directions. When you pay the admission fee you receive a map of the estate with a 3 km walking trail and the places of interest at various points. The main path follows a circular route, with information boards dotted around. There are also other paths you can explore. A visit takes about 3 hours.
