Description

The meandering Czarna Hańcza River flows through the Suwałki Landscape Park (Suwalski Park Krajobrazowy). The landcape park has a size of 6338 hectares, of which about 60% is agricultural land, 10% water, 24% forests and trees, 4% swampy areas, 2% other land. The attractiveness of the local landscapes results from the young glacial relief of the terrain, emphasized by the open spaces of agricultural that prevail in this area. There are 26 lakes in the Suwałki Landscape Park with an area of over 1 ha. The whole area is located in the Nemunas basin, which is reached by two rivers: the Czarna Hańcza and the Szeszupa.

It is possible to observe here: Lesser Spotted Eagle, Great Grey Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, Corn Bunting, Golden Oriole, White Stork, Common Crane, European Honey-buzzard, Eurasian Hobby, Yellowhammer, Great Bittern, Common Goldeneye, Goosander, Red Kite, Western Marsh Harrier, Hawfinch, Common Kingfisher, Eurasian Hoopoe, Great Reed Warbler, Common Rosefinch, Corn Crake, Common Quail, Pied Flycatcher, River Warbler and Brambling.

Access

The observation site is located in the southern part of the Suwałki Landscape Park. It is a beautiful 9 km circular walk through different kind of landscapes. Old agricultural land, river valley, woods, lakes and bogs. The walk starts from a parking lot that is indicated on the map. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
