Description
Lonåsen is a small village in Tunndalen, at the confluence of the rivers Tunna and Lona, about 13 kilometers northwest of the town of Tynset. The village is surrounded by forest and tundra. I stayed here for a month in the winter months of December and January. I regularly saw woodpecker species such as Great Spotted Woodpecker but also Eurasian Three-toed Woodpecker and Grey-headed Woodpecker. In addition, Grouse such as Rock Ptarmigan, Black Grouse and Western Capercaillie. Finch species such as the Hawfinch and Eurasian Bullfinch. Furthermore, many Eurasian Nuthatch, Willow Tit, Greenfinch, Common Redpoll, Coal Tit, Goldcrest, Common Raven and Eurasian Tree Sparrow.

Lonåsen is located 13 kilometers northwest of the town of Tynset. In the general area around Tynset and Lonåsen you have a chance of these sightings, especially in winter. Specifically for this area you can park in Lonåsen and from there follow one of the many hiking trails into the forest. Press P on the map for directions.
