With a good variety in habitats the Tongplaat is a good place for some proper birding. It is part of National Park de Biesbosch, home for several White-tailed Eagle. The eagles use the area regularly as their hunting grounds. In breeding season, Osprey is a possible visitor as well. Several species of duck can be found at the water body itself, visible from the observation hut.
