Description
Very beautiful forest walk along the winding stream Rode Beek. Sometimes you walk high on steep slopes, sometimes alongside the stream. The walk runs on the border of the Netherlands and Germany on the edges of National Park De Meinweg. Very good area for observing woodpeckers. You can see five species: Black Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Eurasian Green Woodpecker. Also many other forest birds such as Eurasian Bullfinch, European Honey-buzzard, Common Crossbill, Common Raven, Common Redstart, Pied Flycatcher and Spotted Flycatcher.

Nederlands: Zeer mooie boswandeling langs de kronkelende Rode Beek. Soms loop je op steile hellingen en ligt de beek diep beneden je, soms loop je direct langs de beek. De wandeling loopt op de grens van Nederland en Duitsland aan de randen van Nationaal Park De Meinweg. Het gebied is zeer goed voor het observeren van spechten. Je kunt vijf soorten zien: Black Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker en Eurasian Green Woodpecker. Ook veel andere bosvogels zoals Eurasian Bullfinch, European Honey-buzzard, Common Crossbill, Common Raven, Common Redstart, Pied Flycatcher and Spotted Flycatcher.

De Meinweg National Park is located east of Roermond on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. This walk is not a circular walk, so you have to walk the route there and back. But the route along the Rode Beek is so beautiful that it is more than worth it to walk it twice. The walk starts at the parking lot at Vlodrop station. From there, the route as indicated on the map is 3.5 km one way and therefore 7 km there and back. You can also start from the parking lot at the Dalheimer Mühle in Germany, then the walk is 2 km shorter in total. Click on a P in the map for directions to the parking lot where you want to start.

Nederlands: Nationaal Park De Meinweg ligt ten oosten van Roermond op de grens van Nederland en Duitsland. Deze wandeling is geen rondwandeling, dus je moet de route heen en terug lopen. Maar het traject langs de Rode Beek is zo fraai dat het meer dan de moeite waard is het traject heen en terug te lopen. De wandeling start bij de parkeerplaats bij station Vlodrop. Vanaf daar is de route zoals die is aangegeven op de kaart 3,5 km enkele reis en dus 7 km heen en terug. Je kunt ook starten vanaf de parkeerplaats bij de Dalheimer Mühle in Duitsland, dan is de wandeling in totaal 2 km korter.
