Formerly water treatment fields now planted with trees with and open areas as well as an older coniferous forest.
The Noorderbos was planted only recently in 1999. The design accentuates the straight lines of the maintained flow fields. The double oak avenues emphasize this. Two contrasting forest types were chosen: oak coppice and mixed park forest. Nice birds you can see here are Common Kingfisher, Bluethroat, Peregrine Falcon, Eurasian Green Woodpecker and Eurasian Bullfinch.
You can explore the area on foot. Entrance is at the Kalverstraat. For parking see the P on the map.
