Description

The hilly area of ​​the Appelbergen is one of the most beautiful places of the Hondsrug area. The former military training area is located east of the village of Glimmen. The area has sand drifts, forest, heathlands and small meltwater lakes. Birds you can observe include Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Little Grebe, Tree Pipit, Eurasian Bullfinch, Common Redstart, Wood Warbler, Willow Tit, Goldcrest and Eurasian Nuthatch.

Nederlands: Het heuvelachtige gebied van de Appelbergen is een van de mooiste plekken van de Hondsrug. Het voormalige militair oefenterrein ligt ten oosten van het dorp Glimmen. Het gebied heeft zandverstuivingen, bos, heidevelden en smeltwatermeertjes. Vogels die je in het gebied onder meer kunt zien zijn Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Little Grebe, Tree Pipit, Eurasian Bullfinch, Common Redstart, Wood Warbler, Willow Tit, Goldcrest en Eurasian Nuthatch.

Access

The Appelbergen are located east of the village of Glimmen. You can park at Paviljoen Appelbergen. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From the parking lot you can explore the area on foot. The route indicated on the map is approximately 3 km. But there are also longer marked hiking trails.

Nederlands: De Appelbergen liggen ten oosten van het dorp Glimmen. Parkeren kan bij Paviljoen Appelbergen. Druk op P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar de parkeerplaats. Vanaf de parkeerplaats kun je het gebied te voet verkennen. De op de kaart aangegeven route is ongeveer 3 km. Maar er zijn ook langere gemarkeerde wandelroutes te maken.
