Shamvura Camp has become well known as a birding hotspot. Located on the Okavango River between the towns of Rundu and Divundu in North Eastern Namibia.
Shamvura Camp is owner managed for almost 30 years on the Okavango River on a vegetated dune overlooking Angola. The surrounding area has riverine vegetation, woodland forest, river, floodplains, reedbeds and grassland. 438 bird species have been recorded in the area.
Birding is affected by seasonal migrants and local all year resident birds. Rufous-bellied Tit, Sharp-tailed Starling, Souza's Shrike, Racket-tailed Roller, Bradfield's Hornbill, Black-collared Barbet, Meyer's Parrot, African Black-headed Oriole, Shelley's Sunbird, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, White-browed Coucal, Dideric Cuckoo, Black Coucal, Red-billed Buffalo-Weaver, African Pipit, Wood Sandpiper, Southern Masked-Weaver are some specials found in the woodland. The riparian woodland and riverine floodplains offer Collared Pratincole, African Skimmer, Rock Pratincole, Rufous-bellied Heron, Goliath Heron, Marsh Owl, Black-crowned Night Heron, Coppery-tailed Coucal, Grey Heron, Giant Kingfisher, Greater Swamp Warbler, Southern Carmine Bee-eater, African Swamphen, Slaty Egret to name some of the birds found.
Shamvura Camp is located 120 km east of Rundu and 80 km West of Divundu on the Okavango River in North East Namibia. We border Angola and are 5 km downstream from the Cuito/Okavango River confluence. The camp is sutuated near the Okavango river on a high vegetated dune. Accessible by sedan vehicle, bicycle or motorbike all year round. Secure parking. Birding by car, boat and walking. Comfortable 3 day stay. 2 game reserves nearby. Shamvura Camp offers personalized service and caters specifically for birders.
