The dunes and coastline north of the village of Tamri is one of the best places in Morocco to see Northern Bald Ibis.
The breeding colonies of the Northern Bald Ibis on the cliffs are well protected, not accessible and it is forbidden to enter them. A very good thing as this has greatly contributed to the breeding colonies expanding and the population of Northern Bald Ibis increasing again. Great news for a bird that was in danger of extinction not so long ago. This is the area where you have a very good chance to see them. Often flying past but also foraging in the sandy areas and dunes bordering the coast. Sometimes the Northern Bald Ibis can sit surprisingly close to the road and are not shy. Other birds you may encounter in the area are Audouin's Gull, Great Grey Shrike, Thekla's Lark, Crested Lark, Black-eared Wheatear, Moussier's Redstart, Sardinian Warbler, Subalpine Warbler and Spectacled Warbler.
The Tamri Dune area is located north of the village of Tamri, about 55 km north of Agadir on the coastal road. You can park along the unpaved roads, see the map. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates. Please respect the paths and stay on the paths so as not to disturb the birds. Most Northern Bald Ibis are observed in winter and spring.
