Description
Palm Islands Nature Reserve used to host many breeders in the past. Today, due to high levels of disturbance (many tourists visit the island via a boat shuttle) only the Yellow-legged Gull still breeds on the island. Today, the island remains an excellent site for monitoring the large migration of waterbirds as well as well as potential observation and/or ringing of passerine migrants. The site is also interesting for wintering seabirds.
Birds that can be observed in the area include Great Cormorant, Great White Pelican, Garganey, Grey Heron, Black-winged Stilt, Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, White Stork, Water Pipit, White Wagtail, Citrine Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Sandwich Tern, Northern Lapwing, Common Tern, White-winged Tern, Little Ringed Plover, Squacco Heron, Black Stork, Eurasian Wigeon and Yelkouan Shearwater.
