Description
The raptor watchpoint near Kalloni provides a great view over the valley southwards that mainly raptors and storks tend to follow northwards during their spring migration. You need to have a bit of luck, but if you're there during a peak migration event, hundreds and hundreds of raptors and storks can be observed. Common species that can be seen are harriers, like Montagu's Harrier and even Pallid Harrier, storks, like Black Stork and White Stork, Long-legged Buzzard, Steppe Buzzard, Short-toed Snake Eagle, European Honey-buzzard, Levant Sparrowhawk, Eurasian Goshawk, Eurasian Hobby, Red-footed Falcon, Eleonora's Falcon, Lesser Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon. Scarcer species can sometimes be seen within flocks of other raptors, like Lesser Spotted Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Booted Eagle and Imperial Eagle.
The area surrounding the viewpoint is also good for typical inland species, like Blue Rock Thrush, Black-eared Wheatear and Cretzschmar's Bunting.
