At the northernmost point of the island of Corfu this lagoon and island with beaches is accessible by a bridge.
The lagoon is the 'waterlily lake' mentioned by Gerald Durrell in My Family and Other Animals. However it appeared lifeless on my September visit. The island has 3 beaches, accessible by car, and good scrub and heath habitat favoured by warblers, Corn Bunting, Eurasian Scops Owl and European Turtle Dove. A pair of Golden Eagle were hunting over the wooded hills on return journey to Roda. Other birds you can enconter are Red-rumped Swallow, Alpine Swift, Crag Martin, Subalpine Warbler, Sardinian Warbler and Western Orphean Warbler.
Parking by the various beaches. Click on a P in the map to get directions. There is a cafe on the mainland beach.
