Description
The Zschornaer Teichgebiet is a nature reserve of 314.74 ha near the village of Zschorna. The area includes the two bodies of water Großteich Zschorna and Breiter Teich as well as the adjacent shore areas. The nature reserve is important for waterfowl. Also considerable accumulations of swallows and swifts in the late summer. From spring until autumn good chances of observing Common Crane. During autumn migration the site attracts many species of waders such as Eurasian Curlew, Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper, Common Redshank, Ruff, Dunlin and Common Snipe. In winter the area is a resting place for Nordic geese, Smew, Common Goldeneye and Goosander. Sometimes rarities are spotted, like for example Common Eider, Arctic Skua, Pectoral Sandpiper, Broad-billed Sandpiper and Slavonian Grebe.

The Zschornaer Teichgebiet is located directly north of the village of Zschorna. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can make a circular walk of 6 km around the reserve.
