Description
Wiesen am Hirtenborn is a nature reserve with damp grassland surrounded by mixed woodlands. Easy walking and access. Parking available. Five species of woodpeckers (including Black Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker), raptors like Eurasian Goshawk, and the usual woodland birds. In summer as many as 5 Red-backed Shrike territories and dozens of Eurasian Skylark. Greater Whitethroat and Crested Tit are also common. The area is protected because of the wildflowers. Mammals, including Wildcat, are frequently seen.

From Rheinboellen, take the road to Bacharach, then turn right at the turning for Manubach/Oberdiebach. The Nature Reserve is at the end of the woods on the right hand side after about 1 km. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. The indicated circular walk on the map is about 6 km long and starts from this parking.
