Description
Taubergießen is a floodplain wetland in the Upper Rhine region. It spans about 1,700 hectares, making it one of the largest protected areas in Baden-Württemberg. The wetland plays a crucial role in flood management and habitat conservation and is home to many birds.
In the alluvial forests breed European Turtle Dove, Golden Oriole and Eurasian Hobby. Near the Altrhein you can spot Common Tern, Great Egret, and sometimes Little Egret, Osprey and White-tailed Eagle. In addition, many resting migratory birds can be observed like Eurasian Wigeon, Garganey, and Red-necked Grebe.

Access
Taubergießen is located close to the towns of Kappel-Grafenhausen, Rust, Rheinhausen and the French town of Rhinau. You can easily park at the Taubergießen Ecological Station. Press P on the map for directions to the parking. From there you can explore the area on foot or by bike if you stay on the paths. There are several marked trails.
