Beautiful wetland and nature reserve where many birds can be seen. Good birding opportunities from the paths and a viewtower.
The 53 hectare Scheerweiher wetland was created as a fish pond by damming the Onolzbach and the Hohenmühlbach. Its water was used to operate the Scheermühle (mill) until 1930. The pond developed into a beautiful nature reserve. The very shallow pond is surrounded by reed beds and wet meadows. More than sixty species of birds breed in the area, including Common Snipe, Water Rail and Sedge Warbler. Notable guests are Northern Lapwing, Red Kite and Osprey.
Park at the parking place and walk from there. You can walk a nice circular trail of about 4 km (see the map).
