Rhine between the island Grafenwerth and the city of Königswinter, good for wintering ducks (Goosander) and migrating ducks and waders.
You can walk directly at the river bank. You can see wintering or migrating ducks like Goosander, Northern Shoveler and Common Teal. On the gravel banks, migrating waders like Common Sandpiper and Common Greenshank are possible. Little Ringed Plover , Black Kite , Common Kingfisher and Rose-ringed Parakeet are breeding birds.
The whole year, you can watch gulls like Yellow-legged Gull and European Herring Gull. With luck, you may find Mediterranean Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull and Caspian Gull (regular in winter).
You can come per train (train stations in Bad Honnef, Rhöndorf and Königswinter, direct connections to Cologne, Koblenz and Bonn), per car (follow the B42 until Bad Honnef or Rhöndorf) or per bike.
