Description
The riverbed of the Rote Weißeritz meanders through a picturesque landscape. This V-shaped valley, which is up to 80 metres deep, is known as Rabenauer Grund. The most striking features are the bizarre rock formations. The valley has been a nature reserve since 1961 because of its flora and fauna. Breeding birds include White-throated Dipper, Common Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Blackcap, Spotted Flycatcher, Hawfinch and Eurasian Nuthatch. In early spring, the courtship display of the White-throated Dipper is easy to observe, from up close.
