Magdeburg is the capital city of Saxony Anhalt, Germany. Like any city, this place is cosmopolitan, with international presence, mainly international students studying at the university. It is a nice place for birding because it has the river Elbe floating through the city and is in the middle of the mitte-Elbe Biosphere reserve. So there a many birds to been seen in the middle of the city. On the islands in the Elbe river, the banks and the mudflats in the river or in the big Rotehorn city park that is actually a big island in between the old and new Elbe river. You can see regular birds like Eurasian Blue Tit and European Robin, but also birds like Common Kingfisher, Common Redstart, Whinchat, Red-backed Shrike and Red Kite.
The Rotehorn city park is easy accessible on foot from the city. But you can also park in the area. Click on a P in the map for directions.
