The Kuhgrabensee is the breeding ground of many birds, such as Great Crested Grebe and Common Kingfisher. From autumn onwards, an abundance of birds can be found on the lake. Then it is home to numerous ducks, geese and other water birds for several months. Among the birds you can observe are White-tailed Eagle, Osprey, Eurasian Coot, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Wigeon, Common Goldeneye, Sedge Warbler, Bluethroat, Eurasian Skylark, Blackcap, Greater Whitethroat, Eurasian Kestrel and Western Marsh Harrier.
During the breeding season good observations of the young Common Kingfisher that have just fledged are possible near the bird hide. Many other birds can also be found in the adjacent meadows of the Polder Oberblockland.
