Renaturalized gravel pit with lake, wet meadows and gravel area with 228 bird species.
The renaturalized gravel pit Kiesgrube Römersee is a breeding area for the Northern Lapwing with courtship flights in March and April. The Northern Lapwing can be found here from February to November. From spring onwards Little Ringed Plover also breeds here. Many migratory birds can be observed, especially in spring and autumn. In winter, Greater White-fronted Goose can often be seen here. The area is protected and must not be entered outside the trails.
Kiesgrube Römersee is located 19 km south of Augsburg and 80 west of Munich, near the town of Oberottmarshausen. Take the B17 to the Oberottmarshausen exit, then head north to the Siegmund company, turn right and park before the next intersection. Press P in the map for directions to a parking spot. From there turn right and walk 400m. By train: Take the train from Augsburg to Oberottmarshausen and from there walk 1.8 km. The circular walking route around the area is about 2,6 km.
