Description

There are several ponds here where many waterfowl can be seen, including Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Common Pochard, Common Goldeneye and several others. During autumn migration several different geese can be found here, and sometimes Common Crane as well. Red-necked Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, and Little Grebe can often be seen here, and there is a tree in the Inselteich where Great Cormorant and Grey Heron can often be seen sunning themselves. There are four observation towers which provide a clearer view over the lakes.

The ponds are surrounded by considerable reedbeds, which provide a home for Savi's Warbler and Reed Warbler .

The bushes, trees and fields that make up the rest of the area are great for general birding all year round; Red-backed Shrike and many small passerines are always present.

The Karower Teiche are the southern-most part of the larger protected landscape that includes the Moorlinse Buch and Bogenseekette/Lietzengraben areas. This whole territiory combined makes for the richest birding experience within the greater Berlin area.
