Description
Kammerweiher are two connected ponds, located on the edge of the beautiful Veldensteiner Forest, right next to the Pegnitz floodplains. A good place for waterfowl due to the general lack of bodies of water in the surrounding area.
Osprey breeds in the region and is often seen in the summer months. Common Snipe, other waders and ducks such as Garganey can be found during migration, but are not common. Common Kingfisher, Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Mute Swan and Grey Heron can be found all year round. Common Pochard and Tufted Duck can also be seen from time to time.

Access
Kammerweiher is located west of the town of Auerbach in der Oberpfalz and south of the village of Michelfeld. Access by car from Michelfeld: turn off the main road into the Veldensteiner Forstweg, go under the B85 and continue along the road. This becomes a forest path, but is easily navigable. Shortly before the river Pegnitz there is a parking lot with a turning area. Press P on the map for directions. From the parking spot the path to the first pond goes off to the left. After a few hundred meters on foot you can see the water surface. Unfortunately the area is very difficult to reach by public transport.
