Detention basin with sometimes a nice range of migrating and hibernating waterfowl.
Detention base with an artificial wetland biotope at its east side. A little hotspot for migrating and hibernating waterfowl like Black Stork, Common Goldeneye, Osprey and Little Grebe. In former times with top species like Whooper Swan, Bewick's Swan, Long-tailed Duck, Black-throated Diver. But can be still good for suprises! Good chances for Common Kingfisher and White-throated Dipper alongside the river Itz north of the lake.
Best arrival by car with parking lot directly on top of the basin dam. By bus take Line 720 towards Grümpen from Coburg Mainstation via Rödental. Get of at "Froschgrundsee" (see the link below for the time table of the bus).
There`s a way for walking and cycling all around the Froschgrundsee, mostly paved, unpaved at the west side of the lake. The circular walk is about 2,5 km.
