Description
Böhmerweiher consists of two lakes. The smaller lake supports Little Grebe, Eurasian Moorhen and Eurasian Coot. Common Teal overwinter here. The larger lake often attracts visiting waterfowl in the winter: Greylag Goose, Gadwall, Great Crested Grebe, more rarely Eurasian Wigeon, Common Shelduck or Goosander. Common Kingfisher fish in both ponds.
In the gravel areas and streams surrounding the lakes Yellowhammer and Willow Warbler sing from the bushes. Eurasian Green Woodpecker feed on the ants. Water Rail skulks on the banks. Reed Warbler and Reed Bunting populate the reeds in the spring and summer. Occasional visitors like the Eurasian Hoopoe can surprise you by stopping to rest during their migration.
Common Snipe sometimes forage in the wet fields surrounding Böhmerweiher. And sometimes Peregrine Falcon hunt for prey.
