Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Lilleau des Niges will allow you to observe many species, with great proximity, while respecting the birds. Among the most common, you most likely meet the Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Common Redshank, Common Snipe, Little Stint, Sanderling, Red Knot, Black-tailed Godwit, Bar-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Little Ringed Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover, Grey Plover, Avocet, Black-winged Stilt, and many more!
On the Laridae side, it is possible to observe Black-headed Gull, Mediterranean Gull, Common Gull, European Herring Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Little Tern, Common Tern, Sandwich Tern for the most common. The reserve is also a paradise for small passerines, in particular the emblematic Bluethroat, but also Zitting Cisticola, Reed Warbler, Melodious Warbler, Western Yellow Wagtail.

Access
Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Lilleau des Niges is located south of the village of Les Portes-en-Ré. Parking is provided next to the Maison du Fier. Press P on the map for directions. It is possible to visit the reserve on foot or by bike. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 7.5 km.
