This Nature Reserve is a major site for the conservation of aquatic plants and dune systems and a remarkable place for both migratory and nesting birds.
The wind sand dunes, the bog and the pond of the La Truchère Ratenelle Nature Reserve are a major site for the conservation of aquatic plants or dune systems and a remarkable place for both migratory and nesting birds. It is probably the sand dunes that represent the most amazing environment of the nature reserve. Modelled 5,000 years ago by the wind. But most birds can be seen on the other side of the reserve along Etang Fouget. Among the birds you can see here are Reed Bunting, Grasshopper Warbler, Common Kingfisher, Purple Heron, Reed Warbler and Marsh Tit.

Two trails, free to access, allow you to discover these environments: the trail of the dunes and the trail of the pond (both shown on the map below). For birding the trail of the pond (around the eastern shore of Etang Fouget) is most rewarding.
