The heart of the Camargue Natural Reserve. Great birding and many bird hides to get up close to the birds.
La Capelière consists out of the big laguna "Étang du Vaccarès", and many smaller lagunas, ponds and heather-Landscape close-by. One of the best birding spots in the Camargue. All year round you can see Great Bittern, Great Egret, White Stork, Common Kingfisher and Cetti's Warbler. In summer Little Bittern, Black-crowned Night Heron, Black-winged Stilt, Green Sandpiper and Spotted Redshank. During winterCommon Teal, Northern Shoveler, Common Pochard, Common Snipe and Penduline Tit. During migration ducks, waders and plovers.
La Capelière is located on the eastern shores of the big laguna "Étang du Vaccarès". Press a P on the map for directions. This is quit a long route, but the whole route can be driven by car. Of course cycling is also possible.
The Capelière visitor centre on the reserve is where you can find all the information that you need concerning the various nature trails and sites of interest in this area (La Capelière, Salin-de-Badon, Etang du Vaccarès). Open every day from April to September : 09:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 18:00 and from October to March, apart from on Tuesdays : 09:00 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 17:00. Entrance fee : € 7 (2025).
