Close to the notorious Chambord royal castle, in the heart of the mosaic landscapes of Solone, the pond of Beaumont is a nice and quiet birding area.
L'étang de Beaumont is one of the largest ponds of Sologne. There you will most likely spot many species of ducks, waders and limicoles with a lot of wintering species. The area is also a great spot to look for insects such as dragonflies and amphibians or even the rare Southern water vole (Arvicola sapidus).
There is an observatory, open all year round, that gives you a beautiful view on the open water, reed beds and islets. The observatory is a very nice spot to take pictures of birds and enjoy a quiet few hours of observation.
Located on the road between Blois and Lamotte-Beuvron, the pond is found close to the village of Neung-sur-Beuvron. The place is easily accessible, even for people in a wheelchair.
