Description

The coastal area directly east of Stes Maries de la Mer area has shallow lagunes, small lakes, a beach and the Bassins de Décantation (1), former seawater settling basins. It is an open landscape with very few bushes. The Bassins de Décantation are recognized nationally and internationally for the wealth of migratory birds. Particularly for the rare birds which it welcomes every year. You can see rare passerines (such as Red-throated Pipit or Yellow-browed Warbler), waders (such as Lesser Yellowlegs, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper or Marsh Sandpiper) or raptors (Eleonora's Falcon, Red-footed Falcon and Pallid Harrier). More regular birds you can observe include Greater Flamingo, Avocet, Common Ringed Plover, Ruddy Turnstone, Slender-billed Gull, Black-necked Grebe, Crested Lark and many other species of waders.
