Description

The dead arm of the Canal de la Deule has a length of one kilometer. It is possible to go around it. Next to the water is a small forest. So you can observe both water birds and forest birds. We regularly see there Grey Heron, Great Cormorant, Common Kingfisher, Mute Swan, Eurasian Coot and Eurasian Moorhen.

On y voit régulièrement Grey Heron, Great Cormorant, Common Kingfisher, Mute Swan, Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Moorhen.

Access

The Bras Mort is located 20 km south of Lille between the towns of Carvin and Courrières. You can park on the southern end of the dead arm. Press P on the map for directions. Be there early in the morning or in the evening to photograph Grey Heron. I photographed Common Kingfisher between 12.00 and 14.00 hours and it is visible quite regularly. But it remains difficult to photograph. A visit during weekdays is better than the weekend because in the weekend there is more traffic and quite a few anglers.
